Intermediate EWP Floor Designer

Title: Intermediate Wood Product Floor Designer -3 years of experience working as a wood product floor designer.

Location: Stouffville Office: 5532 Slaters Road Stouffville L4A 2G7

       Barrie Office: 149 Welham Rd Unit 13, Barrie, ON L4N 8Y3 (newly renovated)

Department: Floor Design Department  

Salary: Based on Industry Experience

Hours of operation: Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., occasional over-time is required to meet deadlines.

Job Overview:

Your will be creating accurate wood products floor systems design for residential or commercial buildings using digital drawings and 3-D drafting software.

Responsibilities and Duties:

· Prepare engineered floor/roof framing layouts for residential or commercial projects using MiTek SAPPHIRE software.

· Responsible for design of engineered I-Joists, LVL beams and metal hanger connector specifications.

· Communicating and working with the Truss Design Department and Engineers when necessary for specific design requirements.

· Interpret construction plans, building supplies plans and information, apply these files for engineering and supply.

· Assist team members in resolving structural design problems and provide expert advice that may arise.

· Performs other duties as required.

Requirements and Qualifications:

· Knowledge of Ontario Building Code wood construction framing is required.

· Able to read and interpret architectural and structural plans details.

· Extremely detail oriented.

· Functional math and computer skills.

· Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

· Excellent professional work ethic.

· Effective verbal and written communication.

· Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

· Must have a positive attitude and be a team player to support the team with demands and deadlines.

· Have a creative mindset and be able to think outside of the box.

· Aptitude for critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making.

· Strong experience in, MiTek Structure or similar CAD based software to prepare framing layouts and model floor and roof loads for engineering design is required.

· Knowledge of APA details or similar from an I-Joist manufacturer is required.

· Ability to assist in training new and existing junior floor designers.
